My French Film Festival.com is the “world’s first online French film festival.” With a favorite mobile device and reliable WiFi connection, you can watch the festival’s short films and feature films from anywhere in the world. The 9th annual French Film Festival begins Friday, January 18 and ends on Monday, February 18, 2019.

According to the film festival’s website:

All short films: free in all countries.

Feature films: free in Latin America, India, Poland, Russia, Africa, and Romania.

*For other countries/regions, there is a small fee per feature film or you can pay a nominal fee to see all of the feature films.

La Nuit des idées

San Francisco’s event will be held at the Main Library

Another upcoming event is La Nuit des idées or The Night of Ideas. It is a project of the Institut Français and Fondation de France. Over 60 cities worldwide will be hosting various events, such as discussion panels, cultural performances, and film screenings in support of this year’s theme, “Facing Our Time.”

According to the event’s website, the goal of the event is “to celebrate the stream of ideas between countries, cultures, topics and generations…to discover the latest discoveries in knowledge and arts, to listen to the ones who contribute to bring more ideas to their field, and to take part in the discussion about the main issues of our times.”

In the United States, five cities (Houston; Washington, DC; Los Angeles; New York; and San Francisco) will be hosting events between January 26 and February 2, 2019.

One of the presenters at the San Francisco installation of “The Night of Ideas” will be French chef, Dominique Crenn, who recently earned her third Michelin Star for her San Francisco restaurant, Atelier Crenn. She’s the first woman in the United States to receive the rating.

The Night of Ideas events are free and open to all. Advance registration may be required.
