It’s Mardi Gras and although parades and parties have been cancelled due to the pandemic, “Laissez les bon temps rouler!” (Let the good times roll!)
Today, I’d like to share a delightful book that you and your family can enjoy from the comfort (and safety) of your home!
“The Runaway Beignet” is a retelling of “The Gingerbread Man” and it takes place in New Orleans during Mardi Gras!
In the book, a mysterious stranger gives a baker named Marcel a magic bag of sugar and grants him a wish!

My daughters and I filmed a video of us reading the book aloud. Read along with us:
How cute! I find it charming how the French has their equivalent of the Gingerbread man story. Thanks for sharing this tidbit with us!

According to her bio, the author grew up with her Cajun family in Louisiana. I like her adaptation! Thankfully, the beignet boy was spared the gingerbread man’s fate and found someone he could trust! 😊 Thanks for reading!
