It’s Wednesday, July 13, 2022, but I wish you a Happy Fry Day!
Here we go again with another food holiday! Not sure how the powers that be come up with these dates, but they’re kind of fun!
Did you know that the beloved deep fried potato snacks aren’t even French! They’re originally from Belgium and usually dipped in mayonnaise. Legend says that they were attributed to France, in error, and that’s how “French fries” became a thing.

Tell me in the comments: Do you like fries? If so, what sauce do you like to dip them in (if any)? 🍟
Usually it’s the good old French fries and ketchup. When I’m feeling a bit adventurous I’ll have BBQ sauce or garlic paste. In Lebanon we like to have garlic paste with almost everything savory 😅 Bon appétit!

I love garlic and I put ketchup on my fries, too. Enjoy your day!

I actually eat French fries plain, to enjoy the salty taste and texture. But one sauce I do love dipping them in is the sauce algérienne (a spicy, mayo-like sauce that’s popular in France). I especially like double-fried fries, in which it’s a thick, crispy outer shell and a tender interior. Didn’t get to have any fries today, but maybe later on! Bon appétit!

I agree, there’s something about the crispy texture of double-fried fries that adds to the enjoyment. As someone who thinks fries are spicy with only mild paprika on them, I imagine algérienne sauce must be very hot! Thanks for sharing!
