Wednesday Postcard: Avenue de l’Opéra in Paris

Bonjour! This week’s carte postale features the Avenue de l’Opéra facing the splendid Palais Garnier opera house.

postmarked August 27, 1923

“Dear F.

…I have found dear old Paris looking just as bright, with weather in favour…

Cheerio, Love B.”

The Avenue de l’Opéra was created in the 1860s by Georges-Eugène Haussmann as part of his Renovation of Paris. It runs between Palais Garnier (as shown above) and the Louvre. There are no trees on the Avenue de l’Opéra since the architect of the opera house, Charles Garnier, wanted a clear view of it.
