If you’re a Spotify user like me, then you’ve probably just received your Spotify Wrapped, the annual data compilation of users’ activity on the platform!
Not sure how I feel about it, though. On one hand, it makes me anxious to know they’ve kept tabs on everything I’ve listened to for the past “year” (approximately January 1-October 31, 2022). On the other hand, it’s pretty cool how they present the data to you in a brightly animated infographic.
I thought it would be fun to share, so here’s a quick summary of my top five artists, songs, and genres according to the app.
My Top 5 Artists
According to Spotify, my top artists in 2022 were Elton John, Beyoncé, Haley Bennett, Conan Gray, and Bryce Dessner.

I feel fortunate to have been able to see two of my top five artists in concert this year: Conan Gray and Sir Elton John! (I hope I can score tickets to Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour in 2023!🤞🏼)

When I learned that two artists from the Cyrano soundtrack, Haley Bennett and Bryce Dessner, made my top five artists list, I wasn’t surprised.
After all, in February 2022, I had made the bold declaration that Cyrano was my favorite movie of 2022 after seeing it twice in theaters. (It’s December now and it’s still my favorite.) I also had its soundtrack on repeat and Spotify Wrapped confirmed it! In fact, two of my top five songs played this year are from the film’s soundtrack (“Someone to Say – Reprise” and “Overcome”), which were co-written by Bryce Dessner.
By the way, good news if you like Dessner’s music, too: He has co-written new music for the upcoming Netflix film, BARDO, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths (out December 16, 2022) with the film’s Academy Award-winning director, Alejandro G. Iñárritu. Milan Records announced that the soundtrack comes out this Friday, December 9. I can’t wait to stream it.
My Top 5 Songs
My top songs in 2022 were: “Stay Gentle” (Brandi Carlile), « Je décolle » (Marie-Mai), “Someone to Say – Reprise” (cast of Cyrano), « Mon amour » (Stromae with Camila Cabello), and “Overcome” (cast of Cyrano).
I’ve previously featured « Je décolle » by Marie-Mai and « Mon amour » by Stromae with Camila Cabello as Music Monday songs, too!

My Top 5 Genres
Finally, my top genres are: Pop, Mellow Gold, French Pop, Hollywood, and Lilith.

In 1999, I went to Lilith Fair, the all-female music festival founded by Canadian singer-songwriter, Sarah McLachlan, so I’m happy to see “Lilith” recognized as a genre of music.

Well, I could go on and on about music. If you’ve read this far, comment below with the name of a song/artist you’re enjoying at the moment. I’d love to hear from you. Thank you for reading! 🎶

Not a surprise that French music is at the top of your playlist! I don’t have a specific artist or song I’m listening to at the moment, but one specific genre that I really enjoy is EDM. So lots of Kygo, Porter Robinson, and Starlyte for me…

My top genre is opera, but I also listen to a lot of French pop or French whatever. Pomme is a current favorite of mine.

I’m not surprised opera is your top genre! 🙂 I recall learning about Pomme when you shared her cover of Barbara’s “Göttingen” – thank you for sharing! 🎶

I had not heard of Lilith in a music sense before, so, thanks for this!

You’re welcome! My understanding is that Lilith Fair’s founder, Sarah McLachlan, named the festival after Adam’s first wife, whom she considered was the first feminist. 🎶
