It’s that time of year!

If you’re a Spotify user like me, then you’ve recently received your Spotify Wrapped, the annual data compilation of users’ activity on the platform!

Not sure how I feel about it, though. On one hand, it makes me anxious to know they’ve kept tabs on everything I’ve listened to for the past “year” (approximately January 1-October 31). On the other hand, it’s pretty cool how they present the data to you in a brightly animated infographic.

For fun, here’s a quick summary of my top five artists, songs, and genres according to the app.

My Top 5 Artists

According to Spotify, my top artists in 2023 were Charlotte Cardin, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Sam Smith, and Olivia Rodrigo.

Beyoncé was my second top artist (like last year), most likely due to me listening to my favorite tracks from Renaissance on repeat, like “Heated” and “Church Girl” (my #6 most played song, by the way!) This time last year, she had just announced her Renaissance World Tour. My older daughter and I went to her Santa Clara show and it was incredible!

My Top 5 Songs

My top songs in 2023 were: «Évidemment» by La Zarra; “Confetti” (both English and French versions!) and “Looping” by Charlotte Cardin; and “Dance The Night – From Barbie The Album” by Dua Lipa.

I’ve previously featured «Évidemment» and “Confetti (VF)” as Music Monday songs, too!

My Top 5 Genres

Finally, my top genres in 2023 were: Pop, Soft Rock, French Pop, Singer-Songwriter, and Rock.

I could’ve sworn I listened to a significant amount of country/country-pop music this year, but it didn’t even make my top 5 genre list. Some of my favorites were:

  • Flowers by Miley Cyrus
  • Watermelon Moonshine by Lainey Wilson
  • Heartfirst by Kelsea Ballerini
  • Somethin’ Bout You by Mickey Guyton
  • Out of That Truck by Carrie Underwood

But you can’t argue with data, like this fun metric called, My Sound Town. According to the app, mine is Saint-Jérôme, near Montréal, Canada. That kind of makes sense to me as I’ve always had an affinity for music by Canadian artists. I’ve even traveled to Toronto to attend the 2022 Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala! Maybe this is a sign for me to visit Canada again? 🇨🇦
