What change, big or small, would you like your blog to make in the world?

I hope my Francophile blog inspires readers to learn French!

Why French?

Why not French? French is useful! It’s the official language of France, of course, and nearly 40 other countries. It’s a major language used in art, business, diplomacy, fashion, food, wine, and more. Along with English, it’s also the official language of the Olympics (and not only because the Games are in Paris this year.)

Many of the words used in English, for example, come from French. You speak French whenever you say words, such as ballet, bureau, cliché, déjà vu, fiancé(e), hotel, or restaurant!

Plus, French just sounds so pretty, chic, and sophisticated! Quelle douce musique à mes oreilles !

The perks of knowing another language are innumerable. For starters, you get a confidence boost. You gain insight to other cultures, which in turn expands your worldview. You get access to media in their original, nuanced, untranslated forms. It will fuel your wanderlust, and so much more.

I took French in high school and majored in it in college. Using my language skills, I’ve been able to travel confidently to France and French-speaking Canada. By actively engaging with French language content, like movies and music, I also learn new vocabulary and strengthen my comprehension skills. After all, living languages, such as French, are constantly evolving making language learning lifelong.

On my blog, I like to share some of my favorite French language or French-inspired books, movies, and music to support self-driven, continual learning.

You may have heard the joke: “What do you call someone who speaks one language? An American.”

Oh là là ! My fellow Americans, let’s change this!

Let’s learn French, tout le monde !
