This post is based on my short layover at the Kansas City International Airport in Missouri (MCI) in January 2025.

I only had four hours in between flights, so it wasn’t enough time to leave the airport. (Not that I would have wanted to leave! It was snowing and 7°F / -14°C the day I was there!) ❄️ I was fine with that as there was plenty to see and do inside the airport.

Three things you must do: sample their world famous KC BBQ, admire the fountain sculpture, and visit both concourses in the newly renovated terminal.

Welcome to Kansas City! Happy to have visited another state: Missouri
My dear husband caught me admiring this poster of vintage Kansas City postcards
“Fountain (KCI)” is a steel and LED sculpture by Leo Villareal (2023) that celebrates Kansas City’s legacy as the City of Fountains
“Nice to meat you” – Meat Mitch Barbecue in Concourse A. There were several BBQ restaurants in the airport, but I’m glad we decided on Meat Mitch. The people were so nice and friendly and the food was delicious. Plus you get great views of the tarmac!
full slab pork ribs with potato salad, coleslaw, curly fries, and mac & cheese from Meat Mitch Barbecue
more KC souvenirs (I should’ve shopped and taken advantage of the low 3.25% Kansas City, MO city sales tax!)
City Market, plus cool 3-D artwork on the terminal’s ceilings
more vintage Kansas City postcards!
