ReBonjour !

I recently went to the Vintage Paper Fair in Golden Gate Park. After browsing through a dozen or so boxes of ephemera, photographs, and other collectibles, I got my hands on several new-to-me postcards.

It’s been a minute since my last Wednesday Postcard, so I’m pleased to share one of my favorite finds from the Vintage Paper Fair: this carte postale featuring the 1900 Paris Exposition (Exposition Universelle de 1900)!

The vintage postcard features the Seine River, the Eiffel Tower and Le Grand Globe Céleste.

Sent from the 1900 Paris Exposition

The message is addressed to a Catherine, who lives in New York and it reads, “Paris, France July 8, 1900 Greetings from the top of Eiffel Tour. All well with me and enjoying my trip very much. The Exposition is very fine. Your cousin, Fred M.

Postmarked July 9, 1900

The purpose of expositions, or world fairs, was to highlight the achievement of countries in various areas, including technological advancement and scientific inventions.

The Vintage Paper Fair was held at the San Francisco County Fair Building in Golden Gate Park | April 3, 2022

Over the years, I have accumulated hundreds of postcards from around the world, which I’ve either purchased from my local antique shops or received from thoughtful family and friends who know I collect them. When I travel, I also like to send myself a carte postale just for fun!

I hope these postcards will make you want to revisit a favorite vacation spot or to embark on a journey to the destination of your dreams!

And if you’ve been to the destination featured, tell me about your experience there – I’d love to hear from you.

Until the next Wednesday Postcard, take care!
