Now playing on my French song playlist:

Title: Ex-fan des sixties
Songwriter: Serge Gainsbourg
Performed by: Jane Birkin

Lyrics I like:

Ex-fan des sixties, petite baby doll
Comme tu dansais bien le rock’n’roll
Ex-fan des sixties, où sont tes années folles?
Que sont devenues toutes tes idoles?

Translation:

Ex-fan of the sixties, little baby doll
How well you danced rock’n’roll
Ex-fan of the sixties, where are your crazy years?
What happened to all your idols?

In remembrance of English-French actor and singer, Jane Birkin, who passed away on July 16, 2023, I’m listening to her song from 1978. The lyrics ask, “What happens to our idols?”

I think they never go away. Certainly they’ll live forever through the art they’ve created! Apart from being known as a popular singer, celebrated French cinema actor, or longtime partner and muse of French singer/songwriter, Serge Gainsbourg (with whom she performed the sexy love song, Je t’aime moi non plus), perhaps Jane Birkin will also be fondly remembered as a fashion icon since she was the inspiration for the famous Birkin handbag by Hermès.

I like to listen to songs en français, so I won’t forget the French I learned in school!

Until next Music Monday, have a good week ahead. 📅
