Hi Barbie! Hi Ken!

It’s July 21, 2023 and the Barbie movie everyone has been waiting for is now playing in theaters!

Confession: I’ve never had a Barbie.

While I’ve never owned any of the dolls by Mattel, I do have fond memories of playing with my childhood friends and their Barbies, Kens, and Skippers. As a kid, I suppose I was a bit odd for wanting to play with other things instead, like crayons, globes, and 45s (IYKYK).

Nevertheless, I’m hopping on the hot pink Barbie bandwagon! I love that it was co-written and directed by Sacramento, California-native, Greta Gerwig. I love the attractive, all-star cast, which includes American actor of Filipino and Jewish descent, Ana Cruz Kayne, along with superstar, Dua Lipa, who’s also got an infectious bop on its soundtrack, “Dance the Night.” 🎶

Barbie’s Biggest Fan

When I was in college/university, I once knew a woman whose love of all things Barbie was next level! Her dorm room was decorated with dozens of Barbie dolls! She used to keep her room dark, with light coming only from strategically placed battery-operated tea lights. They created a spooky glow around each of her beloved dolls.

I don’t remember her name, but I’ll never forget her obsession with Barbie!

French Movie Poster for Barbie the Movie

Have you seen the French movie poster for the Barbie movie? Supposedly, its French translation has a raunchy double meaning. But who knows whether it was deliberate? Qui sait ? (Poor Ken.) The Truth or Fiction website breaks it down in their article, The French ‘Barbie’ Poster.
