This is my response to the daily WordPress prompt: What cities do you want to visit?

What cities do you want to visit?
There are so many cities in the world that I’d love to visit. But to narrow my list down a bit, here are the cities (in the United States) that I would like to visit and why.
- Anchorage, Alaska – to see the Northern Lights
- Boise, Idaho – to learn about Basque culture
- Charleston, South Carolina – to take a carriage tour and learn about Gullah culture
- Four Corners, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah – I’ve heard it’s too long of a drive just to see a marker where four states intersect, but I’d do it for the experience
- Lincoln, Nebraska – I was inspired by the movie, “Yes Man” where the main characters take a spontaneous trip on the next flight out and it was to Lincoln, Nebraska
- Nashville, Tennessee – it’s Music City and I love music 🎶
- Parke County, Indiana – The Covered Bridge Festival is held there every October
- Tillamook, Oregon – I’d love to visit the Tillamook Creamery🍦

Over the summer, I did get a chance to visit the Tillamook Market and play area at Concourse E of the Portland International Airport (PDX), though!

Tell me in the comments below: Have you been to any of these U.S. cities? Please share your stories, links to blog posts, tips, and so on!
Thanks for reading Bonjour: A Francophile Blog!

I’ve only been to Anchorage on this list; Alaska is a beautiful state and experience! I had no idea that Boise had a distinct Basque culture, but that’s so cool! Cities I’m dying to visit are New Orleans and Chicago; Nashville is up there, too. Hope you get to visit more on your list in 2024!

I remember you mentioned that you’ve been to Alaska many years ago and to several cities, including Anchorage. That’s so cool. I would like to take a cruise to Alaska to see the natural beauty of the “Last Frontier” – maybe one day! I’ve been to the New Orleans and Chicago airports for brief layovers, but I’d also like to visit the city centers. Thank you for sharing, Rebecca!

Yes I’ve been to all except Anchorage. My husband lived in Fairbanks for a couple of years and he told me about the Northern Lights and about Anchorage. He also told me about the minus 20 degree weather. I have absolutely NO interest in visiting Alaska although I’ve heard many tell of its astonishing beauty and we get reminders and pictures from his cousins regularly. We live in Arizona and have placed our hands and feet in all four corners of the states at the NE border. Fun! Arizona is a state of many contrasts with the southern most US snow ski area outside of Tucson to the Sonoran Desert. We traveled for 14 months through the contiguous 48 states back in the 1980s. There is tremendous beauty and noteworthy places in each of our gorgeous states. The covered bridges in America are very special. Don’t know how many are left. I loved visiting the Amish communities in Indiana and Pennsylvania. I think my favorite state for beauty is Idaho. But all the rocky mountain states have breathtaking scenery. Charleston SC and Savannah GA were my two favorite southern cities. We took a ferry to Daufuske Island to experience the Gullah culture. I could go on and on about each amazing region. I hope you have the opportunity to visit those places on your list. You won’t be disappointed.

That’s so cool how you’ve traveled through all 48 states on the mainland. Not counting my home state of California, I’ve been to 18 states (so far!) In Arizona, I’ve been to Phoenix and Scottsdale – the view of Camelback Mountain was incredible. Thank you for sharing your travel stories and for the encouragement, Diana!

For about eight years, I lived 30 minutes outside of Charleston South Carolina. I never really got to of the Gola culture. But you could definitely learn more about it downtown. There are historic tours there as well. Things like that.
