high five
you’ve earned your gold watch
how’s the coconut business on the beach?
how did you manage
how did you cope
if there were times the goal seemed out of reach?
how did you do it
dare to share your wit
your second act is to arouse and teach!

Bonjour ! I’ll continue to write about my favorite French-inspired things, as well as books, chocolate, music, movies, and postcards, but to change things up a bit, I will also share a 50-word poem each day in the month of January!
These micro-poems are based on personal observations, pesky intrusive thoughts, and general anxiety about getting older.
Thanks for reading!
This poem is from my poem-a-day series (January 2024).
I’m still decades away from retirement, and I always dream about the day I no longer need to work! However, there’s still the concern of just when I can retire, and comfortably so. As well as find things to do once I no longer have to work! This poem gives a lot of food for thought as we get older!

Thank you, Rebecca. Retirees inspired this poem! In my previous career in retirement administration, one common piece of advice I’d hear (though not the only option) was: save as much money as you think you’ll need for the lifestyle you wish to have when you’re retired. Since there are many variables and unknowns, it’s easier said than done! I know many retirees who return to work part-time because they either need supplemental income or simply love to work. I admire their drive!
