Now playing on my French song playlist:
Title: Tu remplis ma vie
Songwriters: Joe Brooks, Jocelyne Berthiaume, and A. R. Angélil
Performed by Anne Renée
Lyrics I like:
Tu es le phare qui m’éclaire sur la mer
Dans ce grand brouillard qu’est la vie sur terre
Voilà ma chance de te dire je t’aime
Avec confiance et plus que moi-même
Car tu, tu remplis ma vie
Me donne l’espoir
Translation:
You are the lighthouse that lights me on the sea
In this great fog that is life on earth
This is my chance to tell you with confidence
I love you more than myself
For you, you fill my life
You give me hope

If you’re like me, you probably thought “You Light Up My Life” was originally recorded by Debby Boone. I recently learned that her chart-topping version was actually a cover! (The original was recorded for a movie by the same name.)
I like the French version in that there is mention of a phare, or lighthouse (love them!), but in English, it is only implied.
Debby Boone, who’s a devout Christian, is believed to have said that it’s a song that can be sung to God. Hmm, I can understand that, but I think the song is truly intended for a love interest or possibly a respected mentor!

Until next Music Monday, have a good one! 🎶
