Bonjour! This week’s carte postale features Place Stanislas in the city of Nancy, located in northeastern France.
The square was built between 1752 and 1756. It was named after Stanislas Leszczynski, who served as Duke of Lorraine from 1737-1766. He was father-in-law to Louis XV, King of France.
Clockwise from largest photo (Place Stanislas) are:
- Fontaine d’Amphitrite
- Fontaine de Neptune
- L’hôtel de ville (City Hall)
- Le palais du gouvernement
- La place d’Alliance
For more information:
Until the next Wednesday Postcard, à bientôt!
The building on the left in the largest photo is the opera house, where I have seen three beautiful opera productions by the stage director David Hermann.

I was lucky enough to spend a year in Metz which is about a 40 minutes drive from Nancy, so I went there quite often. Your postcard brings back very happy memories!
