Today, I had my first Morning Bun. (Yes, in 2023!)
Legend has it that Morning Buns were created in 1972 by bakers at the French-inspired Ovens of Brittany Restaurant in Madison, Wisconsin, which closed its last location in 2000. They sold their Morning Buns for a mere 80 cents each in 1972.*
However, La Farine, the Oakland-based French-inspired bakery, also claims to have invented this ambiguously named pastry. (Like, what do you mean? Can I not have a Morning Bun after noon or at night?!)
If I ever have a simultaneous craving for a croissant, cinnamon roll, and muffin, it’s good to know a Morning Bun will do the trick!
*For fun, I wanted to see what 80 cents would be in 2023 dollars. The inflation calculator said it would be $5.88 today. The Morning Bun I had today was $5.00 (close enough!)

Yum! I’ve actually never heard of Morning buns, but they sure do sound and look delicious! Inflation is insane these days, and all it’ll do is keep going up!

I liked how the Morning Bun was like a flaky cinnamon roll. It’s like a palmier also, but fluffier. Yes, with these prices, pastries like these will have to be an occasional treat for me. Enjoy your weekend!☀️
