Marguerite’s Theorem (French title: Le Théorème de Marguerite) stars France’s César Award Winner for Most Promising Actress (2024), Ella Rumpf, in her portrayal of the titular character. The film was co-written by French-Swedish director, Anna Novion.
The French-Swiss drama will be screened in the San Francisco Bay Area from April 12 to April 18, 2024 at the Orinda Theatre and on April 13, 2024 at the Jarvis Conservatory in Napa Valley as part of the annual International Film Showcase.
Synopsis of Marguerite’s Theorem:
Marguerite is a brilliant mathematics doctoral student at France’s top university, the Ecole Normale Supérieure. On the day she presents her thesis on the Goldbach conjecture, the number theory that asserts every even counting number greater than 2 is equal to the sum of two prime numbers, a fellow student points out a mistake. The public humiliation shakes up all the certainty in Marguerite’s planned-out life and she decides to quit everything and start a new life.
