Now playing on my French song playlist:
Title: Je voulais te dire que je t’attends (translation: I wanted to tell you that I’m waiting for you)
Songwriters: Michel Jonasz and Pierre Grosz
Performed by Maurane
Lyrics I like:
Moi je te regarde
Et tu me regardes
Translation:
I look at you
And you look at me
I wanted to tell you that I’m waiting for you
And I don’t care if I’m wasting my time
I’m waiting for you, I’m waiting for you all the time
Tonight, tomorrow, it doesn’t matter when
Like someone who no longer has anyone
Falls asleep near their phone
And who looks for you when they wake up

This song is a cover of the 1976 original by Michel Jonasz. I discovered this moving ballad after watching the 2002 French film, A la folie… pas du tout (English title: He Loves Me… He Loves Me Not) on the streaming service, France Channel. It’s a psychological drama starring Audrey Tautou, who plays a woman who is obsessed with a married cardiologist. The yearnful song interpreted by beloved Belgian singer, Maurane (1960-2018) is fitting as the main character patiently waits for the cardiologist to leave his wife so they can finally be together and take a trip to Florence, Italy.
